Description
Solid rods of concentrated elemental Boron and Fluoride manufactured as slow release wood preservatives for the control of fungal decay in the heartwood of poles and other structural timber.
Directions For Use
- In poles with a circumference of up to 950mm – Drill three equally spaced abaxial holes of 16mm diameter at about 20o to the vertical into each pole, each hole starting about 150mm above groundline, extending to approximately 300mm below groundline (total length 420 – 450mm). Drill 4 holes in poles with a circumference greater than 950mm.
- Insert 3 Preschem Polesaver PS14 Rods into each hole.
- Screw a tapered plug into each hole, flush to the pole surface
ALTERNATIVE INSTALLATION (Four holes)
- Using a 16mm drill bit drill four holes at a height of 100mm above groundline, 90o apart at an angle of 20o to the vertical and 45o to the tangent of the pole.
- Insert two Preschem Polesaver Rods into each hole.
- Screw a tapered plug into each hole flush to the pole surface.

Sterilisation of Inspection Holes
Where 16mm holes have been used for inspection of the internal section of a wooden pole, sterilisation of any hole can be achieved by inserting 14mm Polesaver rods into the hole and sealing with a plastic plug.
Mode Of Action
Preschem Polesaver Rods PS14 are recommended for the remedial treatment of heart rot in standing poles as well as for other timber structures subject to the ingress of water. In the presence of moisture inside the timber, the rods will slowly dissolve releasing the active ingredients, Boron and Fluorine, which diffuse into the timber to kill any biodeteriorgens and provide protection from further attack. The rods are able to deliver up to 1.3 kg/m3 of elemental boron and 1.2 kg/m3 of elemental fluorine in the treated zone. These loadings are more than adequate to inhibit most
decay, fungi and insects.
First Aid Instructions
If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poison Information Centre (13 11 26).
If swallowed drink water or milk. Seek immediate medical addention. If in eyes, hold eyes open flood with water for at least 15 minutes and see a Doctor.
